Sunita Williams, ISS crew wish friends and family a ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ from space | Technology News

Nasa astronaut Sunita Williams Thanksgiving Celebration:  Thanksgiving brings friends and family together, and when someone cannot attend the dinner, they usually leave a special note, conveying their wishes. This Thanksgiving, astronaut Sunita Williams––who is now at the International Space Station (ISS)––has also done the same.

In a video shared by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Wednesday, Williams wished her friends, family, and other well-wishers on Earth, saying, “Our Crew up here just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family who are down on Earth and everyone who is supporting us.”

In the video message, the astronauts stationed at the ISS also said the celebration there will include brussels sprouts, butternut squash, apples, sardines, and smoked turkey.

While these might sound like typical food at a Thanksgiving dinner table, what the astronauts ate are highly processed versions, mostly in the paste form, served inside tubes to prevent spilling. These foods are manufactured in a way they preserve all the original flavours and have a longer shelf life.

Astronaut Barry Wilmore, in the video, said, “There are not many places that you can be that you can actually lay on the ceiling, and this is one of them. We’re thankful for zero gravity; it’s fantastic!”

Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore have been at the ISS since June 5 owing to technical glitches on the Boeing Starliner, which was supposed to bring the astronauts back to Earth on June 14.

The mission has been postponed, and Williams and Wilmore will come back to Earth using SpaceX’s Dragon capsule, scheduled to return to Earth in February 2025 as a part of Nasa’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission.
